Red Table

After my pleasant experience with Komoro, I was again in the mood to try eating at a restaurant in SM San Lazaro that I haven’t tried before. Red Table is a Korean restaurant that is located beside Bon Chon, a Korean fast food place. At first glance, its interiors look intimidating and screams “pricey”. But upon entering, I realized that their set-up is like Komoro’s, where you place your order at a counter and your food will be served after. I liked the casual vibe of the place along with the friendly staff.

After placing my order of my favorites (Bibimbap and Gimbap with Bulgogi Beeef) I sat by the quiet corner of the place. The decor was very elegant; the seat was very comfortable. Although I must admit that the menu was a bit dog-eared already. Also, the number on the left side of the photo below was made with fluorescent sticker and it was already peeling in places. The photo didn’t clearly show this but take my word for it. Also, the bottom of this number-thingy was broken and mended with masking tape. It isn’t pretty.

When my food was served the first thing I noticed was the size of the serving. My order of two dishes could feed two people. The Gimbap rolls looked delicious. I loved the sweetish dipping sauce. The only Ban Chan they served is a small plate of Kim Chi but I didn’t mind. The soup with thin slices of radish tasted great as well. Like I said, the Bibimbap was served in a stone bowl and it looked great. Plus, it had a sunny side up egg on top–the one I missed in the Bibimbap at Bulgogi Brothers. The sauce’s flavor was authentic, although the spiciness was toned down a bit–probably as a concession to the Filipino palate.

Everything looked good but the proof is in the eating. I ate a piece of the Gimbap and it was just yummy! The Bibimbap was great as well. Perfectly cooked rice, fresh-tasting vegetables, and a delicious sauce. I couldn’t complain. In fact I loved it so much I finished the whole bowl. I was full and I couldn’t eat anymore. I had the Gimbap to-go and I had it for dinner at home.

Red Table’s food tastes authentic and its pricing is very much affordable as well. Customer service was great too. I shall be back and try their other offerings.
