This post can also be titled, ‘An aspiring vegetarian in a meat-loving family’.
I feel like ‘The Omega Man’ whenever there are family gatherings because the food in these affairs are almost always full of meats. Seafood sometimes, especially the grilled kind. But vegetables? Sometimes there are vegetable spring rolls and chopsuey but even this dishes have pork belly or shrimp hidden somewhere in the mix. And if I make the mistake of disclosing my attempts at vegetarianism, they’d react as if I spoke in an alien language.
Sometimes, even if the event is in my honor, I never really get to have the food that I really like because the preferences of the guests are considered–often more than mine.
These are preparations for an upcoming birthday lunch. However, the celebrant had in fact not much to say as to what will be in the menu on that day.
Wish the celebrant the best of luck then. 🙂
